PacifiCorp Electric Operations – 24 years

1996-1998 -- Manager of Network Engineering in PacifiCorp’s IT Telecommunications Department, with responsibility for engineering and planning of global voice, video, and data network. Assisted in budgeting, planning, design, and implementation of $8 million network upgrade comprised of approximately 200 WAN, MAN, and LAN sites. Responsibility also included managing Network Services functions of ordering, coordination, contract negotiations, and payment of common carrier services.

1990-1996 -- Director of Electronic Communications in PacifiCorp’s Engineering Department. Managed professional staff of 30 who provided estimating, budgeting, detailed design, and implementation of microwave, fiber optic, SCADA, power line carrier, protective relaying communications, wireless radio, voice, and video systems over seven state service territory. Coordinated negotiations with PCS providers on change out of microwave systems. Responsible for FCC licensing of corporate microwave and mobile radio system.

The above positions included numerous planning and technical responsibilities such as work scope definition, estimating, budgeting, design, project management, coordination, installation, and in-service testing of communications systems. Types of projects: Analog and digital microwave radio, fiber optics, analog and digital multiplex, power line carrier, protective relaying communications, mobile radio, telephone exchanges, power systems, electric generation plant protection systems, telemetry systems.

Motorola Semiconductor Products Division – 5 years

1969-1974 -- Applications Engineer, Consumer Electronics with responsibility for circuit design, product evaluations, data sheet development, application notes, customer assistance, participation in annual IEEE Consumer Trade Show.
