Senior Consulting Engineer
Support principal engineers in the complete system designs of various protective
relaying, power distribution and telecommunication systems. This work includes preparation of
expenditure requisitions, equipment specifications, bid evaluations, local purchase orders,
testing and implementing equipment, power system studies, and installation drawings for the
various systems.

Kennecott Utah Copper (11 years)
Senior Project Engineer
Managed the electrical, instrumentation and piping disciplines during design and construction
for a $500 million Tailings Modernization Project. Project included relocation of railroad and
utility lines, interface with government agencies, 46kV substations, power transmission lines,
slurry pump stations, water pumping stations, cyclone facilities, administration offices, PLC
control, and fiberoptic communications. Supervised and directed engineering and craft
personnel. Prepared cost estimates. Performed cost and risk analysis for upper management for
competing designs. Interfaced with plant personnel during design and construction. Evaluated
and decided if Operation’s design comments were cost effective and provided feedback concerning
decisions. Evaluated and managed construction contracts. Provided engineering design for
electrical, instrumentation, and process control. Evaluated process operation problems and
provided solutions.

• Evaluated different control systems to optimize performance and cost. Saved company
over $500K.
• Prepared alternative analysis studies and managed the design and construction of
modifications to 46kV substations and water pump stations to improve reliability.
• Redesigned 46kV substation to eliminate unplanned outages and saved company over $50K
per event.
• Supervised the electrical and instrumentation design and construction for a $227 million
grinding mill addition. Completed project ahead of schedule providing added income for company.
• Managed the as-built drawing completion and conversion from Microstation to AutoCAD.
Provided detailed documentation to reduce maintenance costs.
• Provided technical consulting services to Kennecott Utah Copper subsidiaries including
gold, silver, lead, zinc, coal and copper mines. Enabled subsidiaries to quickly assess
alternatives and improve reliability.

Columbia Engineering Corporation/CEC Construction (2 years)
Project Manager
• Managed electrical and instrumentation construction contract worth $1.6 million for
Greens Creek Mining Co., a silver, lead and zinc mine near Juneau, Alaska. Negotiated an
additional $1.5 million of electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical construction work.
Project was completed on schedule. Project manpower exceeded 90 people.
• Managed an electrical construction contract worth $4 million dollars for the Kennecott
Utah Copper Modernization Project. Contract returned profits in excess of bid projections.
Project manpower exceeded 110 people.
• Provided design engineering and marketing services to enable the company to obtain and
complete $15 million worth of work in 1988.

Utah Power & Light (1 year)
Senior Relay Engineer
Designed and managed the installation and troubleshooting of protective relay systems for 230kV,
138kV, 46kV, and 12.5kV transmission and distribution substations.
• Designed the relay protection system for an existing 138kV substation in Salt Lake City,
which increased the capacity and reliability of services for Kennecott Utah Copper.

AMAX Magnesium (1 year)
Senior Project Electrical Engineer
Designed electrical projects, prepared appropriation requests, managed design and construction
contracts, prepared, issued, and revised equipment specifications, performed electrical failure
analysis and supported plant maintenance operations.

Gulf States, Inc. (5 years)
Project Superintendent
Superintendent for an electrical and instrumentation contract worth $1.4 million for a Sulfur
Dioxide Scrubber System being installed at the Santee Cooper Power Plan in Cross, South
Carolina. Managed client relations, cost control, staffing, maintenance of equipment and
supervising field staff.
